Kerry is a superb location for enjoying all kinds of indoor, outdoor and adventure activities. Blessed with exquisite scenery and lush landscapes, imposing mountain ranges and an Atlantic Ocean breeze never too far away, Sneem in South Kerry is arguably the best location for getting active. At Alaind, we encourage our visitors to explore the Outdoors of Sneem and The Ring of Kerry, which are among the most beautifully diverse regions to visit.
For walking and hiking fans, we have on our doorstep the The Kerry Way walking trail and a number of looped, linear & beach walking trails. Experienced mountain hikers can explore the challenging neighbouring mountain summits of the Dunkerron Mountains, the 600m ridges of which mark the boundary of the neighbouring Irish speaking (Gaeltacht Area). We might also suggest some carefully planned nighttime walking, as this area is an International Dark-Sky Reserve and one of only three gold-tier locations in the world.
Taking a spin around the 180KM Ring of Kerry world famous driving and cycling route is a must do for all cyclists and bikers. The Ring of Kerry loop follows the coastline along the Wild Atlantic Way Drive, taking in the colourful towns of the Iveragh Peninsula. For added pleasure we recommend adding The Skellig Ring and Valentia Island to your roadtrip. On the other side of Kenmare Bay is the quieter but equally beautiful 140KM Ring of Beara which takes its travellers through the scenic vistas of the Healy Pass, The Wild Atlantic Way, the Sheen Valley, and the authentic towns of the Beara Peninsula.
Our mild climate offers visitors the chance for all year round walking, hiking & biking experiences. The North Atlantic Current of the Gulf Stream, helps keep this area of South West Kerry a sub-tropical feel and a few degrees warmer in the colder months than you may expect. With frequent plus 10 degree Celsius temperatures, the crystal clear winter days can even be the best time to visit. The countryside takes on a completely different appearance with hues of golds and browns and the roads practically all to yourself to enjoy.
The excitement of an Activity Holiday in Kerry is being outdoors and exploring the rugged beauty of countryside, dominated by the impressive Atlantic coastline and the Dunkerron Mountains. Whatever your level of experience or appetite for adventure, we will be happy to help with recommendations and advice on suitable walking, hiking or biking routes. We can organise secure bike parking, walking poles, maps, packed lunches, drying room for gear and apré activity relaxation with snacks and refreshments for you and/or your group.;
